Wickedfood Earth Farm in conjunction with Slow Food Magalies Valley will be hosting an Autumn Feast to showcase the past season’s bounty grown in our beautiful valley. This will also be one of the last times you will be able to sample the flavourful antibiotic and growth hormone-free veld-raised pork that has become synonymous with Wickedfood Earth Farm since 2012. Over the past 4 years we have bred over 300 pigs in a totally free-range system. Our research project has come to an end, and we feel that unfortunately the market in Gauteng is not yet ready in for such a niche product. Over the next two months we will be selling off the remainder of our herd, and just keeping a small nucleus breeding group for our own consumption and for training. The programme for the day: 

• 10h30 – on arrival – Tea, coffee, homemade juices and snacks;
• 11h00 – ±1 hour introduction to Wickedfood Earth Farm and walk about, including an in-depth discussion on our free-range pig project, orchard and gardens (please wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes);
• 12h30 – Sit down to enjoy our autumn feast (There will also be vegetarian options if advised at least 7 days in advance).

Menu:

Starters – a selection of our own charcuterie, mezzes made from our own vegetables, and homemade bread;

First course – a spicy pork ragout on a bed of our own mielie couscous;

Main course – 2 cuts of slow roasted pork accompanied by a good selection of locally grown autumn vegetables (hopefully we will be able to include a tasting of our first season of blue sweet potatoes);

Dessert – a tasting platter of the past season’s preserved fruit, local double cream and a few other surprises.

All those attending will also be eligible to purchase a special meat box, at reduced rates, representing a cross section of our product.

Cost: R295pp (R250 for Slow food members, terms and conditions apply, booking essential, limited space). We are not licenced and do not stock any alcohol or soft drinks. You are welcome to bring your own drinks including ice. We will supply glasses and cold water on the tables).
