We grow old heirloom varieties of pomegranate organically. We then cold-press the juice and bottle it. This ensures that you get the maximum benefit from this delicious health drink. Pomegranate juice contains more than 100 phytochemicals. The fruit has been used for thousands of years as medicine and the health benefits are innumerable. They have anti-oxidant, anti-viral, and anti-tumor properties and are said to be a good source of vitamins, especially vitamins A, C, and E, as well as folic acid. This amazing fruit consists of three times as many antioxidants as both wine and green tea.
At the cooking school, we use the juice for:
- A refreshing natural cool drink – mix 1/3 of a glass of pure pomegranate juice with ice, and a slice of lemon and top up with soda water;
- Gin & tonic – 1 part gin, 2 parts pure pomegranate juice, a slice of lemon, a sprig of rosemary, and top with tonic water.
- Sparkling wine – as a healthy alternative to Champagne and orange juice, one part pure pomegranate juice to 4 parts cold sparkling wine.
Our pomegranate juice is made from pomegranates grown on the Wickedfood Earth Farm. These food gardens and orchards are planted with a wide variety of heirloom vegetables and herbs, and the extensive orchards have over 50 varieties of fruit and nut trees, and berries. The Wickedfood Earth Farm food gardens are internationally recognized by Slow Food as an important educational garden. At Wickedfood Earth Country Cooking School we bottle all excess fruit and vegetables at the peak of their ripeness. All our fruit and vegetables are grown along organic lines, free of insecticides, fertilizers or any other poisons. We hand-make small batches of pomegranate juice as well as a wide range of preservative-free preserves, jams, chutneys, relishes, sauces and bottled fruit. This ensures that, by not over-processing, the result is concentrated, natural flavours.
