For most of us, one of the most comforting childhood memories are the pleasures of  grandma’s kitchen. Cooking for fetes, teas, functions and family gatherings, there  always seemed to be tins full of treats.

Now, The Cake Stall brings all those childhood recipes back to life.  The book covers a lot more than just cakes – from ginger beer and lemonade, to sweets, biscuits, and jams, in fact grandma’s entire pantry.

This beautifully laid out 200-page book has been produced by Australian Women’s Weekly, an extraordinarily successful global cookery brand, built over 30 years. So what’s the secret? It’s the world famous Test Kitchen and recipes that have been triple tested and work, every time.

The book has been  thoughtfully laid out, starting off with two pages of refreshing homemade cool drinks a ginger beer, lemonade and raspberry cordial.

Next chapter, entitled Gifts for Mum, looks at a wide variety of classic cakes  and grown up sweets – Turkish delight, salted truffles, macaroons, sponge cake, carrot cake, chocolate cake, a cross section for every occasion.

From there the book moves to treats for kids  – again, the things that keep  kids happy whether it’s just a lunchbox treat, or a special something for a birthday party, you’ll find it in this section.

‘Tis the Season is an entire chapter dedicated to the kind of cakes and sweet things one would prepare for the festive Christmas season, including biscuit Christmas tree decorations,  Christmas cakes and puddings.

Other chapters explore a wide variety of biscuits, cookies , slices and tarts.  Plus an entire chapter on jams and preserves.

For anyone even remotely interested in baking, The Cake Stall is a must reference book for your library.  Definitely a book that Wickedfood Cooking School will refer to for our baking cooking classes.

Wickedfood Cooking School runs cooking classes throughout the year at its purpose-built Johannesburg cooking studio. Cookery classes are run in the mornings and evenings 7 days a week (subject to a minimum of 12 people). The venue is also popular for corporate events and private functions – teambuilding cooking classes, birthdays, kitchen teas, and dinner parties with a difference. Our cooking lessons are hands-on, where every person gets to participate in the preparation of the dishes. They are also a lot of fun where you not only learn new skills, but get to meet people with similar interests. For corporate groups and team building cooking classes these events are a novel way of creating staff interaction or entertaining clients.
