Serving suggestion: rice, couscous, quinoa, fat cakes, or as a great banting/paleo option with cauliflower rice/mash.

Cooking method: Defrost and remove the lid. Heat in a microwave or over low heat on the stove in a pot.

An Italian classic, Osso Buca is made from beef shanks or shin. The shin slices are cut through the bone, where the marrow is just right. This dish is even more flavourful if made the day before and gently reheated, a perfect ready-made meal. To get the best flavour, the dish needs to cook for long and slow.

For our Osso Buca, we use very meaty shanks that also contain a delicious marrow bone, from veld raised older cattle, with a proper bone broth stock as the foundation. Bone broth is rich in minerals that help build and strengthen your bones. It also contains many other healthy nutrients, including vitamins, amino acids, and essential fatty acids. To this we add mushrooms, red wine, and lots of tomatoes, finishing with a selection of other seasonal vegetables.

This delicious, spicy beef stew really met all my expectations. I served it with rice noodles, that went well with it.
