Mustard Fruit or ‘Mostarda di frutta‘ originates from Italy. It is a chunky preserve or condiment made from seasonal vegetables and/or fruit that has been candied and cooked in a mustard flavoured sweet syrup. Traditionally Mustard Fruit is served with cold meats and cheese. It is also a great way of adding a spicy sweetness to a dish.
At Wickedfood Earth Farm we make Mustard Fruit from our organically grown seasonal produce. This year we used 2 kinds of pumpkin, tomatillos, plums, candied orange peel, dried apricots and yellow peaches. To this, we added a little chilli, and a selection of roasted spices, including mustard seed. As with all our preserves, no preservatives, artificial flavourings or colourants are used. Mustard Fruit is a great addition to a cheese board or cold meat platter. Also delicious with cooked ham, gammon and smoked chicken.

The Wickedfood Earth Farm food gardens and orchards are planted with a wide variety of heirloom vegetables and herbs, and the extensive orchards have over 50 varieties of fruit and nut trees, and berries. The Wickedfood Earth Farm food gardens are internationally recognized by Slow Food as an important educational garden. At Wickedfood Earth Country Cooking School we bottle all excess fruit and vegetables at the peak of their ripeness. All our fruit and vegetables are grown along organic lines free of insecticides, fertilizers or any other poisons. We hand make small batches of a wide range of preservative-free preserves, jams, chutneys, relishes, sauces and bottled fruit. This ensures that we do not need to over process, which results in concentrated, natural flavours.
